Founded in 1990 as a non-profit organization and community arts center, the Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild strives to offer quality services to its members and visitors. The Guild, located in Mayfield's historic Ice House, supports and promotes the arts through educational programs and events; and its Icehouse Gallery features as many as ten new exhibits in a variety of media each year. Two annual juried exhibitions feature both visual and literary works by local and regional artists-- Impressions, held in the fall, and Youthful Impressions held in the spring. The annual All About Gourds exhibition, an exploration of the functional and artistic possibilities of the humble gourd, is the focal point of Mayfield’s Gourd Patch Festival held each September. In addition to offering a wide variety of exhibits, the Art Guild sponsors classes for children and adults. Basic to advanced classes in painting and drawing, as well as workshops in a variety of media including carving, calligraphy, sculpture, weaving, spinning, gourd crafting and stained glass are among the fun and educational opportunities at the guild. The Art Guild Gift Shop, located in the Ice House entrance, showcases unique, handcrafted items and artwork by guild members as well as other regional artists, which will interest collectors and those shopping for one of a kind "Made in Kentucky" gifts. The Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild is a Not-For-Profit 501 (C) (3) organization. The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet, provides operational support funding for the Mayfield / Graves County Art Guild with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
